Qatar road signs and their meanings
Signs are a large part of the theory test, but the exact split is not published. You do not need to memorise 138 pictures one by one. Learn the shape-and-colour grammar first, and most signs read themselves.
The grammar: shape and colour tell you the type

Warning signs you will be asked about
Crossroads, T-junction, side road, roundabout ahead, traffic signals ahead, pedestrian crossing, children/school, cyclists, camel crossing (Qatar's classic), two-way traffic, road narrows, bridge narrowing, dangerous bend, double bend, steep hill, uneven road, hump, slippery road, loose gravel, soft verge, roadworks, low-flying aircraft, sandstorm/wind, tunnel, wharf ahead, dead end, merging traffic, and the rectangular radar/speed camera sign.
Prohibition (regulatory) signs
No entry is a red circle with a white horizontal bar. This is a common sign question. A blue circle with one red diagonal means no parking. A blue circle with a red cross means no stopping, which is stricter. Other signs cover speed limits, turns, overtaking, horns, vehicle types, pedestrians and size limits.
Mandatory signs
Blue circles: turn left only, turn right only, straight only, straight or left, keep left, keep right, pass either side, roundabout (circular arrows), cycle track, minimum speed.
Priority signs people often get wrong
- Give way (inverted triangle): slow, yield, stop only if needed.
- Stop (octagon): a complete stop is compulsory even if the road looks empty. The road test examiner checks this.
- Priority to oncoming traffic (red circle, red and black arrows) versus priority over oncoming traffic (blue square) at narrow bridges.
- Where there is no sign at a junction or roundabout, Qatar's law gives priority to traffic from the left (Art. 73 to 74). Signs override this rule; the rule applies only when signs are absent.
Road markings and lights
A continuous white line between lanes may not be crossed or driven on (Art. 44); a broken line may be crossed when safe. Yellow box junction: do not enter unless your exit is clear. Give-way triangles on the road mean the same as the sign. Traffic lights: red = stop, yellow = get ready, it does not mean go, green = go. And a police officer's hand signals override every light and sign (Art. 72).
Study tip
Learn signs in mixed sets, not one category at a time. Say the meaning before flipping the card. The app uses the correct sign shapes and colours without printing the answer underneath.
