Qatar driving theory test 2026: format and preparation

The theory or "signal" test is part of the path to a Qatar driving licence through a licensed driving school. School guidance also describes parking and road-test stages. Use this guide to prepare, then ask your school for the arrangements that apply to your course.

Confirm your test format

Published school and preparation pages describe different computer-test formats. They do not establish one current format for every candidate. Before booking, confirm the question count, pass mark, time limit and available languages.

What to study

Build your revision around signs, priority, lane changes, speed, seat belts, phones, parking, fines and points, emergencies, and vehicle documents. Learn why the rule applies, then review the mistakes you make in practice.

• At roundabouts, give priority to traffic coming from the left. At an uncontrolled junction, priority is also from the left; follow signs and signals where present (Art. 73 to 74).
• When joining a main road from a secondary road, give way to main-road traffic and enter only when there is space (Art. 76).
• Before changing lane or turning, check that it is safe and signal clearly in good time (Art. 46).
• Follow posted speed limits and slow for hazards and poor conditions. The law extract does not establish numerical speed limits by road type (Art. 53).
• Children under 10 must not sit in the front seat (Art. 55).
• Parking is prohibited within 15 metres of junctions, roundabouts, pedestrian crossings and bus stops, as well as in the other places listed in Art. 78.

The parking and road tests

School guidance describes L-parking, pocket or parallel parking, and a ramp or hill start for light-vehicle learners. Confirm the manoeuvres, training sequence and correction rules with your instructor. Practise under supervision using the reference points taught for your vehicle.

Your school arranges the road test after the required stages and training. Ask what documents to bring, which attempts your course includes and what happens after a failed attempt. Also confirm the licence-issuance steps after passing. See the parking and road-test preparation checklist.

Documents and requirements

School guidance lists Qatar ID, an eye test, an application and photos among enrolment requirements. Ask for the current document list, accepted eye-test providers, course hours and total fees before paying.

The law sets the minimum age at 18 for light vehicles and motorcycles, and 21 for heavy vehicles, machinery and public vehicles. It also requires medical fitness (Art. 31).

After you receive your licence

Art. 35 gives ordinary licences a validity of 5 years for non-Qataris and 10 years for Qataris. Art. 36 requires renewal no later than 30 days after expiry, but prohibits driving with an expired licence. The renewal deadline is not permission to keep driving. Carry your licence and present it to police when requested (Art. 37).

If you already hold a foreign licence, ask the Traffic Department or your school which route you qualify for. Read the foreign-licence guide before assuming you can exchange it or skip lessons.

How many questions are in the Qatar driving theory test?

Confirm the count and pass mark with your school. The app offers a 40-question practice mock with 36 correct to pass, plus a 20-question option with 18 correct. These are app settings.

How long is the Qatar theory test?

Ask your school for your booked test's time limit. The default app mock lasts 35 minutes.

Which languages can I use?

The app supports English, Arabic, Hindi and Malayalam. Your school must confirm the languages available for the test.

How many test attempts do I get?

Confirm included attempts, retest booking, extra lessons, fees and waiting periods with your school.
