Qatar road test and parking test: why people fail, and how to pass
The theory test can be retaken. Schools such as Karwa state two road-test attempts per course; check with your school because course terms can change. Many drivers fail because they miss a procedure the examiner checks. Use this checklist.
Instant fails
- Missing a blind-spot check when changing lane, merging or leaving the kerb. Karwa's own guidance: miss it and you fail.
- Hard braking without a reason. Examiners treat it as loss of control.
- Not stopping fully at a STOP sign at a T-junction.
- Arguing with, or questioning, the examiner's instructions.
Before you move
Adjust the seat and mirrors. Check the handbrake. Put a manual car in neutral before starting. Fasten your seat belt and ask your passengers to fasten theirs. The examiner notices this. Ask, "everyone OK?" before moving.
On-road checklist

The parking test
You pass this stage before practical road lessons begin. For a light vehicle, practise L-parking and pocket or parallel parking. Many schools also use a ramp start. Hold the car with the handbrake and do not roll back. Heavy vehicles use L-parking only. Follow the reference points taught by your instructor.
Test day
- Dress neatly with closed shoes; schools enforce it.
- Arrive early; tests run on weekdays only.
- Bring your learner permit. No permit, no test (Art. 33).
- Nervous is normal. Slow your breathing, narrate your checks quietly, and drive the way you were taught, not the way traffic around you drives.
If you fail
